Cleaning

  • Always clean over a towel or sink with water to act as a cushion in case they are dropped.

  • Dentures should be soaked once a day in an over-the-counter cleaner of your choosing. If using tablet cleansers, only soak for the time recommended by the cleanser’s manufacturer. You may use a stiff denture brush to scrub your denture/partial.

  • DO NOT soak in any cleanser overnight. We do not recommend using cleansers labeled ‘overnight’.

  • Continue to use a regular soft tooth brush on your gums, tongue, and remaining teeth.

Overdenture (Implants)

  • It is very important that you do not soak overdentures for longer than the manufacturer’s recommended time as it can damage the abutments over time. We do not recommend soaking for more than 5 minutes if you have an implant retained overdenture.

  • You may clean your abutments (the portion of the implant you can see in your mouth) with a wet toothbrush or access brush. You may also dip the brush in alcohol free mouthwash for a fresher taste.

  • DO NOT use toothpaste, baking soda, or any other cleaner on your abutments. Alcohol free mouthwash only. The abutment will have to be replaced if it becomes damaged and they are very expensive.

Storage

  • Please store your denture/partial in a case with a lid with water at all times. The denture/partial must remain wet or it can distort and will no longer fit correctly.

  • You should store your denture/partial in plain tap water over night and any time you are not wearing them.

  • Always store your denture where pets cannot get to them. In a drawer or cabinet is best as pets will climb on things to get to your denture/partial. The love to chew on them!

  • If you are traveling with your denture/partial and will not be wearing them, please wrap them in a wet paper towel and store in your case.

Sore Spots

Spare Prosthesis

  • If you have a spare, please leave it soaking in water or wrapped in a wet paper towel (however you were previously storing it at night).

  • Keep it clean by brushing at least once a day. Continue storing it until we are sure the new prosthesis is working well and is comfortable. After that point in time, you can begin storing your spare in a dry state.

Broken Prosthesis

  • If your denture/partial fractures please call and schedule an appointment for repair. Please describe as best you can how and where it is broken.

  • Please bring any pieces or teeth that have broken off of the denture/partial with you to your appointment.

  • Please bring any spares you may have to your appointment. Although most repairs can be done in office, some must be sent to the lab and your spare may need some adjustments to fit correctly while your current prosthesis is being repaired.
