The Healing Phase With Your New Prosthesis

Woman smiling while prosthodontist talks at Phillips Prosthodontics Wearing an interim denture/partial is a unique experience and will take a period of adjustment. We will do our best to help you through the process, offer suggestions, and provide care to help you with this transition.

During the next 4-6 months, you will return for adjustments. This allows us to accommodate the changes that occur following tooth removal.

Adjustments should be scheduled at approximately:
  • 1-2 weeks after surgery
  • 1 month after surgery

  • 3 months after surgery

  • 6 months after surgery

These appointments are fairly short (30-45 minutes) and may not all be necessary. The actual sequence and number of appointments you will need depends on your individual response to surgery and healing time.

After a period of 4-6 months, we will evaluate healing to determine when we can proceed with the definitive (permanent) denture/partial.

Leave your denture/partial out overnight to help promote healing. When not in your mouth, your denture/partial should be kept in water or a wet paper towel as instructed by your dentist.

If you experience any problem, please call our office at 336-274-5400.
